Question: I already own a MathWorks student product.
How can I tell which release I have?
Answer: The release number appears the product box and CD.

Question: Are there any restrictions on using this product?
Answer: Yes. The following restrictions apply:
  • The product must be used on a student's own computer.
  • The product is solely for use in connection with courses offered at degree-granting institutions, either by students working toward a degree, or by continuing education students.
  • The right to use the student products for any other purposes, including commercial purposes, is expressly prohibited.
  • Student licenses are nontransferable.
  • Maintenance and support are not provided with Student Version products. Installation help is available. For other support issues, please use the MATLAB newsgroup and Homework Helper.
  • Companion products are available only via download through the Web store.
   
Question: Can I use my MATLAB & Simulink Student Version after I graduate?
Answer: Student licenses are restricted to use by students enrolled in a course offered by a degree-granting institution or in a continuing education course. They are not for personal, professional, or commercial use.
   
Question: Is there an upgrade from MATLAB Student Version Release 13 to MATLAB & Simulink Student Version Release 14 with Service Pack 1?
Answer:

There are no upgrades or trade-ins offered on student licenses. In order to obtain the most current version (MATLAB 7 and Simulink 6.1) you must purchase MATLAB & Simulink Student Version Release 14 with Service Pack 1.

   
Question: Can I trade in my Prentice Hall Student Edition for a MATLAB & Simulink Student Version?
Answer: There are no upgrades, trade-in credits, or rebates offered for moving from the Prentice Hall Student Edition to the MathWorks' Student Version.
   
Question: Can I receive a credit if I upgrade to the professional version of MATLAB?
Answer: There are no upgrades, trade-in credits, or rebates offered for moving from MATLAB & Simulink Student Version to the professional version.
   
Question: What’s the difference between MATLAB & Simulink Student Version and the professional version of MATLAB and Simulink?
Answer: MATLAB & Simulink Student Version provides students with a cost-effective version of professional MATLAB to run on their own personal computers. The Student Version complements educational installations of the professional version of MATLAB, which can be found in many campus computer labs. The Student Version of Simulink enables you to create model sizes that include up to 1,000 blocks. Student Version also includes key functions of the Symbolic Math Toolbox.

Question: Why is it called Release 14 with Service Pack 1 and not MATLAB 7?
Answer:

The "release" number refers to a set of products. The "version" number, as in MATLAB 7, refers to one specific product. Each product within Release 14 with Service Pack 1 carries its own version number (e.g., MATLAB 7, Simulink 6.1).

   
Question: What's the difference between the MATLAB & Simulink Student Version Release 14 with Service Pack 1 and the MATLAB Student Version Release 13?

Online documentation is available from Student Version CD. Product CD must be in the CD drive to access documentation.

Question: Will there be a new release of MATLAB & Simulink Student Version that incorporates Service Pack 2?
Answer: No. Plans for the next release of Student Version are in progress now and will be posted to the Academia main page when available.
   
Question:

Do I need a passcode / password to launch the Student Version?

Answer:

No. By opening the CD holder containing the MATLAB & Simulink Student Version software, you have agreed to the product license terms. As stated above, student licenses are nontransferable.
