Technical Conventions


This manual and all Signal Processing Toolbox™ functions use the following technical notations.

Term or SymbolDescription

Nyquist frequency

One-half the sampling frequency. Some toolbox functions normalize this value to 1.

x(1)

The first element of a data sequence or filter, corresponding to zero lag.

Ω or w

Analog frequency in radians per second.

ω or w

Digital frequency in radians per sample.

f

Digital frequency in hertz.

[x, y)

The interval from x to y, including x but not including y.

Ellipses in the argument list for a given syntax on a function reference page indicate all possible argument lists for that function appearing prior to the given syntax are valid.
