Design with Simulation

Design with Simulation The Simulink environment enables you to:

  • Model a system
  • Simulate its behavior
  • Refine your design before implementation

You can create hierarchical block diagrams for both high-level modeling to capture an overall product concept, and more detailed modeling to specify implementation details. You can build complete end-to-end simulations, integrating components such as analog/mixed signal, DSP, digital communications, and control logic. Through simulation, you can ensure the system performs to your specifications, explore design trade-offs, and tune parameters to optimize performance.

Simulink can model single and multichannel data, and linear and nonlinear components. It can simulate digital, analog, and mixed-signal components, and it employs efficient techniques for simulating frame-based and multirate signal processing systems.

Fixed-point designs in signal processing and communications systems can also be developed and simulated with Simulink. Simulink Fixed Point enables you to perform bit-true simulations of your designs and generate code for implementation on fixed-point processors.

Specialized Blocksets

Add-on blocksets provide all the common blocks and many advanced algorithms found in signal processing and communications applications allowing you to build complete system models. These blocksets include:

Communications Blockset for designing and simulating the physical layer of communication systems and components

RF Blockset for designing and simulating the behavior of RF systems and components in a wireless system

Signal Processing Blockset for designing and simulating signal processing systems and devices

Simulink Fixed-Point for designing and simulating fixed-point systems

Stateflow ® for designing and simulating event-driven systems

Video and Image Processing Blockset for designing and simulating video and image processing systems

Simulating Complete System Behavior

Most signal processing-based communications and multimedia products incorporate analog/mixed- signal, DSP or digital communications, and control logic components. When design teams work independently and use different tools they can't easily simulate component interactions or test the whole system.

With Model-Based Design in Simulink, you can simulate all of these components together in one environment. This capability allows system architects to simulate component interactions, test the whole system, and deliver clear specifications to component designers. As a result, Simulink effectively streamlines communication and design hand-offs across teams. With Real-Time Workshop, you can accelerate long simulations by creating stand-alone code to run on one or more computers.
