Description Topics

Developing Algorithms and Models

MATLAB offers an intuitive environment for developing and testing custom algorithms and simulations. Utilizing the built-in math algorithms, you can develop a model of your system or device under test. With the visualization capabilities of MATLAB you can also create a graphical model of your data to easily identify subtleties and anomalies. The powerful technical language of MATLAB is both concise and descriptive, allowing you to model complex systems with small sections of easy-to-follow code.

MATLAB visualization can help identify subtle phenomena quickly. This 3-D plot of a shock wave propagating in a fluid represents pressure as height, Mach number as color, and streamlines in black.

Data collected with MATLAB test and measurement tools can be used to develop and refine your model. For example, measured data can be used to develop a mathematical or graphical model of your device or system under test. You can then simulate your design in MATLAB and apply MATLAB's analysis capabilities to fine-tune your design. These results can then be directly applied to your actual component or system.

With MATLAB you can:
  • Develop and test custom algorithms
  • Simulate your model using real-world data
  • Refine your model through iterative data collection and analyses
  • Verify your design by comparing expected results with actual data
  • Create and test software prototypes of your device or system

MATLAB eliminates the need to use multiple software environments for hardware interfacing and analysis and modeling. As a result, you can derive results faster, easier and more cost effectively than by applying conventional test methods. MATLAB and companion products offer an array of tools for simulation and modeling, including:

  • Hundreds of functions for mathematical computation, data analysis, equation solving, and visualization, all available as part of core MATLAB
  • State-of-the-art algorithms in MATLAB add-on Toolboxes that extend MATLAB in areas, such as signal processing, statistics, neural networks, and others.
