The MathWorks Brand Style Guide

MathWorks Logo

A logo is a company's most important visual branding element. Used consistently, it promotes market recognition of, and trust in, the brand.

MathWorks also uses several product and service marks. Each of these marks has its own specific usage guidelines.

Usage Guidelines

The MathWorks logo consists of two elements: the company name and the corporate symbol: the L-shaped membrane. The typography, proportions, and spacing of logo elements should never be modified.

The height of the "x" indicates the minimum space to be preserved around the logo.

See guidelines for replacing the previous logo with the new one.

The company tagline, "Accelerating the pace of engineering and science," can also be an element of the logo. See Tagline Version for details on how to combine the tagline and logo.

There are three visual variants of the MathWorks logo: full color, monochromatic, and silhouette. Choose the variant appropriate for your project's reproduction requirements.

Full-Color Variant

Use for printing in full color (CMYK) and for on-screen projects.

Monochrome Variant (for print use only)

If your project cannot be printed in full color (CMYK), use the monochromatic logo.

Silhouette Variant (for print use only)

Low-resolution printing processes such as silk screening and embroidery cannot reproduce the subtleties of the L-shaped membrane in the MathWorks logo. For these print projects, use the silhouette variant.

Tagline Version

The company tagline is "Accelerating the pace of engineering and science." See Referring to MathWorks for editorial guidelines.

The logo and tagline can be used separately. When combined, they make up the complete MathWorks signature. Use the logo and tagline in combination if the piece includes only one instance of the logo — for example, on a poster or a trade show display.

If the piece includes multiple logos, the last instance of the logo carries the tagline. For example, in a brochure in which the logo is repeated on the front and back covers, include the logo with the tagline on the back cover only.

Small-Logo Default

Use this version for most applications.

The L-Shaped Membrane

The symbol of MathWorks, the L-shaped membrane is an eigenfunction of the wave equation. This unique symbol represents the company's products, business, and point of view. It is important to treat this company symbol with consistency and dignity. When displayed in its entirety, the L-shaped membrane should appear with the registered trademark symbol.

Applying the L-Shaped Membrane

The L-shaped membrane can be cropped or screened back as a foundational image in marketing materials.

The full-color L-shaped membrane should be used when possible.
