Gary Smith
Founder and Chief Analyst, Gary Smith EDA

Gary Smith is the founder and Chief Analyst for Gary Smith EDA. Previously, he was the Managing Vice President and Chief Analyst of the Electronic Design Automation Service, Design & Engineering Cluster at Gartner Dataquest.

Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Smith was a consultant in design methodology and the ASIC end of the semiconductor business. While at LSI Logic, Mr. Smith became an evangelist for the RT-level design methodology. Starting in the semiconductor industry, Mr. Smith was involved in some of the first attempts at customer-designed ICs.

Mr. Smith earned his bachelor of science degree in engineering from the United States Naval Academy. He is a current member the Design TWG for the International Semiconductor Road Map (ITRS) and serves on the DAC Strategic Committee. He is past Chair of the IEEE Electronic Design Processes conference. Mr. Smith has been quoted and published numerous times in all the Electronics Publications including EE Times, EDN, Electronic Business in addition to the Wall Street Journal and Business Week.


Gary Do, Ph.D.
Group Manager, Panasonic Emerging Advanced RF Laboratory (PEARL)

Dr. Do currently leads the systems engineering and IC design teams at the Panasonic Emerging Advanced RF Laboratory (PEARL) located in Santa Clara, CA, formerly known as Tropian Inc through an acquisition by Panasonic in 2006. He is responsible for the development of wireless chipset product for Third generation and next generation cellular wireless standards based on Polar technology. Prior to joining PEARL, Gary was VP of IC and Systems Engineering for Tropian Inc., Dr. Do is responsible for all aspects of Tropian's Integrated Circuit development. Gary also held key engineering positions at Northrop Grumman and Agilent Technologies where he was involved with the design of terrestrial and satellite communication systems. He received a Bachelor's degree from the University of California, San Diego, a Master's degree from the University of Southern California, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.


Idan Bar-Sade
Sr. Vice President of Engineering & Product Management, BridgeWave

Idan Bar-Sade joined BridgeWave in 2001 from Qualcomm where he was a Project Manager. During his six years at Qualcomm he provided technical leadership on a variety of projects including decoder ASIC, channel simulators, and CDMA modem emulators.

Idan leads all of BridgeWave's product development, and was responsible for the system design and implementation of BridgeWave's GE60 gigabit wireless link.


Don Orofino, PhD,
Director of Engineering for Signal Processing, The MathWorks

Don Orofino is Director of Engineering for Signal Processing at The MathWorks, guiding product development for the analysis, design, and deployment of signal, image, and communications applications. Current focus is on embedded systems and FPGA/ASIC integration. Prior to joining The MathWorks in 1995, Don worked at Hewlett-Packard Imaging Systems Division (Andover, MA). Don earned a Ph.D. in ECE from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, MA) in 1992, and is a senior member of the IEEE.


Mike Mulligan, PhD,
Senior Development Manager, Signal Processing and Communications, The MathWorks

Mike Mulligan is a Senior Software Development Manager for Design Automation tools at The MathWorks. He is responsible for The MathWorks tools for modeling, simulation, and design in the areas of communications, RF & analog circuits, and discrete event systems. He has 20 years of experience including communication system engineering, hardware design, and software development. Prior to joining The MathWorks, Mike was on the engineering staff at ViaSat, MITRE, and Linkabit and served on the faculty at Marquette University, where he first used MATLAB. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, where he focused on error-control coding for communication systems.
