Idea to Implementation: A Different Perspective on System Design
Jack Little, President and co-founder of The MathWorks
12:45 p.m.–1:45 p.m. in Ballroom ABC
Today’s electronic devices are multifaceted, software-intensive systems that interact with the real world. These interactions create a new kind of complexity that increases pressure on engineering teams to deliver the right product under shrinking schedules. Multidisciplinary teams are inhibited by gaps between the different tools and workflows that they must use for system concept development, hardware design, and software development. Unless we connect these tools, we’ll continue to see missed deadlines and spiraling verification costs. - Panel, Tuesday, June 10
ESL Hand-off: Fact or EDA Fiction?
Giovanni Mancini, The MathWorks
4:30 p.m.–6:00 p.m. in 210CD
Not only is it happening, but companies are actually going to the next step beyond ESL! We need to expand our idea of ESL beyond the parochial view that defines ESL as the next level above RTL, and that it allows us to design ASICs faster. The operative word in ESL is system—not level or electronic—and systems are all about the functionality they provide to a target customer. - Tutorial #6, Friday, June 13
System Level Design for Embedded Systems
Mike Woodward, The MathWorks
9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. in 210CD
The tutorial provides a comprehensive introduction to the use of system-level design techniques for high-productivity hardware and software embedded systems development. The emphasis is on proven design techniques and technologies that can be applied to existing design processes. Attendees will learn about practices and techniques they can apply immediately, and they will get a view of the direction the industry is taking for the longer term.
