Over twenty years after the introduction of electronic engine controls, powertrain calibration remains a challenging engineering task. Emissions, fuel economy, and performance are often competing objectives, yet they each need to be satisfied for the engine to meet regulatory and customer requirements. Traditionally, each calibration team establishes a set of calibration guidelines based on their prior experience. However, the increasing number of sensors, actuators, and control parameters are having a dramatic impact on calibration time. Relying solely on experience has proved to be no longer sufficient. To reduce calibration time many companies have turned to a model-based calibration process.
In this webinar, Pete Maloney from MathWorks consulting discusses how design-of-experiment, statistical and optimization methods can be applied to powertrain calibration with the objective of achieving optimized calibration values and establishing a consistent calibration process.
