Massachusetts State Science Fair
One hypothesis has been tested again and again. Give students a chance
to use their brains, question the world around them, and apply scientific
methods to solve important, relevant problems, and you've provided them
with an experience they can use their whole lives. That's what the
Massachusetts State Science Fair is all about. For more than five decades,
thousands of students have challenged themselves in eleven different
categories. And in the process of scientific discovery, they've managed
to have a lot of fun along the way.

Brophy School
Last year Brophy School, a Framingham elementary school, held its first annual parent-coached science fair open to Brophy students of all grade levels (K-5). The goals of the science fair are to foster the development of critical thinking and analytical skills, and encourage cooperation and teamwork. The first science fair was a huge success with many students and parents participating. Teams of students met nights and weekends to explore a wide variety of science- and math-oriented research topics and to prepare a presentation of their results. The Brophy School PTO raises funds to purchase books that enable coaches and students to develop meaningful experiments. The books will become part of the Brophy library and are available to all students throughout the school year.
Citizen Schools
Through this innovative after-school and summer program in Boston, children
are encouraged to explore career opportunities in a safe, educational
environment as "apprentices." The program has been in existence
for four years.

TecsChange - Technology for Social Change
TecsChange's initial effort involved repairing, upgrading, and sending
donated computers to nonprofit organizations working for social change
in Latin America and Africa. In 1997, TecsChange began the Earn-a-Computer
Program to train local people in basic computer repair. This experienced-based
class is taught by volunteer computer professionals and tutors who
are knowledgeable about computer repair.
