The MathWorks is changing the way technical production software is developed. You likely know MATLAB as the interactive tool for algorithm development and data analysis. Today however, high tech companies across all industries rely on The MathWorks Compiler and Builder technology to automatically turn their MATLAB applications into production, either as stand-alone applications or as components for large scale software projects.

We are looking for an engineer with a sound technical background who can engage with customers in a consultative manner to understand their workflow and challenges and propose and show solutions that address those challenges.

Applications Engineers (AE) at The MathWorks are highly technical team members whose primary responsibility is to manage the technical aspects of the sales process.

The AE job is characterized by intense interaction with high tech companies in a variety of industries. Thorough technical know-how, and strong presentation and people skills are key ingredients for success in this role.



Responsibilities

  • Providing technical pre-sales support and guidance to The MathWorks Benelux Sales Organization.
  • Engaging prospective customers to understand their workflow. The AE will leverage his/her product knowledge and industry experience to demonstrate or explain how software tools from The MathWorks can solve their problems and, in turn, improve their engineering processes.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to customers and prospects during customer meetings and marketing seminars. These sessions include, but are not limited to, live demonstrations.
  • Supervising product evaluations. Prospective customers may require guidance on how to evaluate our products. It is the AE's responsibility to plan and supervise the evaluation project.
  • Providing feedback of findings from customer interaction to the company’s development and marketing initiatives.
  • Accountability of project quality, timing and effort including the submission of trip or engagement reports as well as weekly activity reports.


Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering
  • Approx 3-5 years relevant experience in software development environments and languages
  • Knowledge of C, C++, Visual Basic, .NET, JAVA, C#, IIS, ASP, COM, and standalone execution applications is necessary (as many as possible)
  • Demonstrated ability in software application development and project management, computational analysis, and algorithmic design
  • Knowledge of MATLAB and/or experience with a broader set of MathWorks products is a big plus
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Dutch, good knowledge of a third European language would be helpful.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills and proficiency in the delivery of presentations.

  • Have a desire to listen to customers and present software solutions while setting reasonable expectations.

Travel is generally throughout the Benelux specific to various seminars, customer visits, etc. Though far less frequent, some international travel is expected. The candidate should expect to travel max. 25% of the time.
