Job Summary

The EDU Business Development Marketing specialist in PRC will be responsible for establishing and/or strengthening strategic relationships with Chinese universities, educational institutions and relevant government ministries including Education (www.moe.edu.cn/english/index.htm) and Science & Technology (www.most.gov.cn/eng/index.htm).



Responsibilities

The EDU Business Development Marketing specialist will use his or her business and technical knowledge and interpersonal skills in the following activities.

  • Detail the processes for purchasing individual, department-wide, university-wide and country-wide licenses including identification of users, influencers, and decision makers, and use this to produce a “road map” for The MathWorks to gain enterprise-wide licenses for top engineering universities in
    1. Identify and meet with university professors, department chairs, deans and government program managers at customer meetings, seminars, or workshops;
    2. Detail requirements for alignment of The MathWorks business planning in with the department, university and/or government planning process
  • Work closely with sales, sales management, and country management to help in understanding and synthesizing short-term and long-term customer business requirements.
  • In concert with the sales organization and sales and marketing staff, increase awareness of The MathWorks and enhance relationships through direct customer interaction.
    1. Proactively find and develop contacts in university departments where MathWorks products are underutilized.
  • Develop and make recommendations for:
    1. A few target universities to pilot teaching and research laboratory offerings;
    2. Support of student competitions and other programs commensurate with the strategic social mission and academic support programs;
    3. Leveraging Edu programs conducted by potential partners such as FPGA, DSP and instrumentation companies (like Agilent, Texas Instruments, Xilinx, Altera, Quanser, Cadence, dSpace, Lyrtech, Synplicity, Tektronix, Analog Devices, Mentor Graphics, MotoTron).
  • Provide input to and help EDU marketing publicize and strengthen curricula, textbooks, and file exchange in native Chinese languages.
  • Proactively and regularly communicate with key stakeholders in management, sales, and marketing to maximize information flow and minimize confusion about roles and projects


Qualifications

When evaluating candidates for this position we will require:

 B.A. in engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics or related fields

  • Experience in higher education in PRC
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Chinese (Mandarin)
  • Three years in a full-time position with a western or multinational company
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Superior organization skills
  • Self motivation, ability to work independently
  • One year experience with MATLAB, Simulink, or other MathWorks products

In addition:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics or related fields is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of decision making on curricula development and purchasing in the Chinese higher education system
  • Knowledge and skills in establishing relationships with distinguished academics and government officials is a strong plus
  • “In-bound” marketing experience of two years
  • Business proposal development experience of two years
  • 10 years total work experience
  • Experience in higher education in PRC as a Professor is a strong plus
  • Knowledge and skills in control design and/or digital signal processing is a plus

The candidate for this position should expect to travel about 50% of the time, including international travel.
