Job Summary
The need to bring innovative, high-quality products to market faster is driving the use of models during the design and realization process. Model-based design provides efficiencies in product development that enable companies to deliver products on time, on budget, and with the required performance. If you want to become part of a team that is leading this evolution and have a passion for modeling, simulation, and embedded software then read on.
The primary responsibility of this Application Engineering (AE) position is to manage the technical aspects of the sales process. The AE will spend a majority of their time focused on applying Simulink and MATLAB capabilities to the development of controls applications within the aerospace and defense industry. They will be responsible for demonstrating their knowledge during sales meetings, conference calls, public seminars, and in the development of product demonstrations.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical pre-sales support and guidance to The MathWorks North American Sales organization. The Application Engineer assists the salesperson first, in understanding and synthesizing customer requirements, and then in explaining the features and capabilities of our products relative to these requirements.
- Prepare and deliver proof-of-concept presentations to customers and prospects during customer meetings and seminars. These presentations use a combination of live MATLAB/Simulink product demonstrations and PowerPoint slide shows to address specific customer interest areas.
- Support customer product evaluations. This requires assisting customers in the development and application of MATLAB/Simulink programs that solve specific problems. To facilitate this process, knowledge and skills in the following areas are often necessary: real-time and non-real-time simulations, embedded systems development and C programming, m-file programming, rapid prototyping and/or hardware in the loop testing, high level architecture, etc.
- Share customer experiences with other Application Engineers and members of the Marketing, and Development groups to ensure that future products are being delivered that truly meet and exceed expectations.
Qualifications
This person should possess an advanced Engineering degree and have significant experience in applying CAE tools to real-world engineering problems. Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow or similar products is essential. Specialization in modeling & simulation, and control system development, as well as experience in the aerospace and defense industry is required. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to perform computational analysis, modeling, and simulation tasks. The position requires excellent communication and presentation skills. Candidates should be interested in working directly with customers to help them understand how to apply our products to their problems. Demonstrated leadership skills are a big plus.
Travel is generally throughout North America specific to various seminars, customer visits, etc. Though far less frequent, some international travel is expected. The candidate should expect to travel about 30-40% of the time with trips generally no longer than four days.
This position requires “US Citizenship” due to the nature of the customers served.
