Job Summary
If you are part of a team that designs control applications for embedded systems and you now want to apply your technical skills to work directly with customers and answer their needs, then read on!
The MathWorks core software platforms, MATLAB and Simulink, form the foundation of an integrated model-based design environment, which has become a de-facto standard in several industries for designing, testing, and deploying complex control systems. In order to support our growth, we are looking for an Application Engineer who will use their industry experience to engage with prospective customers. Your main goal will be to understand their workflow, demonstrate and explain how software tools from The MathWorks can solve their problems and enable them to deliver products on time, and remain within budget while fulfilling initial requirements.
You will primarily focus on:
- System modeling and control design in Simulink and Stateflow
- Multidomain modeling of physical (electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic) systems
Details on how The MathWorks meets the needs of its customers in this area can be found at the following link: http://www.mathworks.com/applications/controldesign/description/modsim.html
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the technical aspects of the sales and applications support process directed mainly at customers whose primary business involves the development of control algorithms with the help of physical models in industries such as Industrial equipment, Automotive, and Aerospace.
The key tasks that define this role are:
1. Providing technical pre-sales support and guidance to The MathWorks France Sales Organization. Working as a team, you will assist the salesperson in understanding and synthesizing customer requirements, then explaining the features and capabilities of our products relative to the customer's specific needs.
2. Preparing and delivering product presentations to customers and prospects. These are delivered during customer meetings and marketing seminars. These sessions include, but are not limited to live demonstrations of Simulink control design and physical modeling products and the delivery of associated PowerPoint presentations.
3. Developing proof-of-concept application examples and simulations. These are generally used to clearly demonstrate how the capabilities of The MathWorks software address the concerns of our customers. These demonstrations will be used for sales visits, marketing seminars, or telephone/web customer support. These help us develop a shared vision with prospects.
4. Support customer product evaluations. Occasionally, customers who are preparing to acquire software require guidance on how to use the control design and physical modeling products in their development process. This requires assisting them in the development and application of MATLAB/Simulink programs directly toward solving their specific problems.
5. Determine customer requirements and recommend effective solutions. An Application Engineer with a broad understanding across engineering disciplines is viewed as having exceptional value as The MathWorks customers span a broad range of industries, disciplines, and applications. This role involves working closely with the Marketing and Product Development organizations to drive future product features consistent with customer requirements.
6. Assist Sales and Marketing in the development of business strategies for success. An Application Engineer (AE) has the knowledge and experience to act as a consultant toward the development of sales and market strategies. This part of the role demands creativity allowing the AE to impact the long-term success of the company. As an application engineer matures in the role, various parts of the organization become more dependent on them for strategic advice as well as technical guidance.
Qualifications
• Advanced engineering degree with a specialization in Control Systems
• Significant industry experience with demonstrable expertise in real-world control solutions
• Knowledge of Simulink/Stateflow or similar tools is essential
• Ability to perform multidomain modeling for at least one of the following areas: mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems
• Willingness to learn new physical domains: electrical power, mechanics, and hydraulics
