Job Summary
The Director of Worldwide Education Strategy and Marketing will lead an existing global team that will formulate and execute on strategy and marketing for supporting and promoting the use of MathWorks products for cutting-edge research, curriculum development, and teaching in engineering, science, mathematics and finance.
Responsibilities
develop and enhance our market strategy for the education community including support, training and products for students, faculty and researchers;
manage the implementation of that strategy in concert with other resources in marketing, sales, service, and development at The MathWorks;
support the sales organization with specific, measurable marketing programs and campaigns and a vibrant website dedicated to the academic community;
direct research that quantifies market potential in core and emerging technology areas in academia such as distance learning and automated generation and correction of assignments;
create and manage a university relations model with an educational advisory board of academic leaders;
evolve the Academic Support program to increase focus and investment in engineering, science, mathematics and business education;
evolve the Book Program to grow the development of textbooks in established and emerging areas as well as develop new publishing models to deliver education-oriented content;
create frameworks, processes, templates, programs that will grow with the company;
connect strategies and align resources between the education and commercial marketing and development organizations;
work as part of a cross-functional licensing team to analyze the license model and recommend appropriate license model changes.
Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of worldwide higher education systems including both degree granting and non-degree granting institutions
10+ years experience in the use of technology in higher education, either through direct research and teaching experience, or support of those functions at academic/research institutions, or marketing strategy management experience as a vendor in this market
Familiarity with academic processes, including those for curriculum development, technology acquisition, textbook and related materials development, and funding of research and teaching
Knowledge of the technical computing market, with specific knowledge and use of MathWorks markets and customers a strong plus
Exposure to marketing strategy in industry through direct involvement on projects related to product planning, pricing, promotion, and place
Ability to excel in a highly collaborative work environment
10+ years experience in project, program, operations and personnel management, including demonstrated strength at growing teams, developing skills of reports, and supervisory and influence management
Strong process-orientation, exceptional analytical abilities, highly developed organizational, project management and communication skills
Willingness and desire to manage and do “hands on” work
B.S. in engineering and an M.S. or Ph.D. in engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics or related field; MBA a strong plus
