Job Summary
The Senior Manager is responsible for all phases of the creation/development, revisions and updating of the documentation for the Simulink product family and their related blocksets and toolboxes.
Responsibilities
The Senior Manager is responsible for all phases of the creation/development, revisions and updating of the documentation for the Simulink product family and their related blocksets and toolboxes.
The Senior Manager will be responsible for hiring and supervising managers within the Documentation team, and contributing to the hiring of technical writers, editors, and production staff as permanent employees, contractors and temporary consultants. He or she will work closely with Engineering, QE, Usability, and Customer-Facing staff to develop software documentation for each product release. He or she will work closely with information architects to establish a scalable documentation architecture and more consistent documentation.
The Senior Manager will take a strong leadership role in acquiring, implementing and managing technical communication tools.
Qualifications
• Minimum of a masters degree and fifteen to twenty years+ of combined technical writing and current software documentation leadership and management experience
• Proven track record of
o managing a previously formed documentation group, or having successfully built a documentation group, at a similar sized company
o evaluating current documentation and determining its effectiveness for the end user
o managing documentation teams through product releases
o implementing or revising the editorial process
o managing documentation projects from conception to implementation
o collaborating in a technical software development company’s environment
• Experience with transitioning to topic-based documentation
o Train documentation teams in topic-based writing
o Information architecture skills
o Understand content re-use
o Experience with DITA and content management systems
• Experience with technical communication tools
o Develop requirements for CCM systems, on-line editing tools, grammar-checking tools, and other technical writing systems and tools.
o Evaluate and acquire technical writing systems and tools.
o Manage conversion to new and ongoing management of technical communication tools
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and comfortable with interacting and communicating with Program Managers, Directors, Vice-Presidents and at times the Chief (“C”) levels of management
• Demonstrated ability to work with and lead teams
• Experience with Arbortext, Accrocheck
• Background in math, engineering, or science gained either from formal education or experience writing about or using scientific or engineering software.
Plusses:
• Masters or Ph.D.
• Experience with MATLAB or Simulink products
