Job Summary

We are seeking a talented Toolsmith who is self-motivated and self-directed to join our Documentation Tools team.  You will help support the authoring tool chain that the writers use to produce the documentation content and improve writer interfaces and workflows.   You will be joining a team of Toolsmiths who are responsible for the tools that build MathWorks documentation for the web and in our products.

Responsibilities

  • Support and extend XML-based authoring and production tools
  • Support integration of documentation with source control and build systems
  • Develop and support tools to meet Web site and product requirements for documentation
  • Automating routine authoring tasks, such as screen capture
  • Researching and implementing creative solutions based on writers requirements
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to drive projects to completion

Qualifications Required / Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or bachelor’s degree and extensive Toolsmith experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a Toolsmith in documentation or publishing
  • Experience with HTML, XML, XSLT
  • Experience with source control
  • Experience with Windows and Unix operating system
  • Experience programming in a scripting language e.g. Perl
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Nice to Have:

  • Experience implementing a content management system (CMS) in a documentation publishing environment
  • Experience in MATLAB programming
  • Experience with FOSI or XSL-FO
  • Experience with CSS, JavaScript, or Java
  • Experience with Xquery or Acrolinx
  • Experience with internationalization/localization tools and processes
  • Familiarity with graphics formats and font formats
  • Knowledge of DocBook or DITA
  • Knowledge of Arbortext Command Language
