Job Summary

As the Education Technical Marketing Manager you will develop and execute on plans to drive increased adoption of the MATLAB and Simulink product families in the academic community.  Adopted by more than 5000 universities and colleges, MATLAB and Simulink accelerate the pace of learning, teaching, and research in engineering and science.  MathWorks products also help prepare students for careers in industry, where the tools are widely used for research and development.

You will collaborate with sales, marketing, engineering, and other teams at MathWorks to develop the worldwide education strategy, marketing message, supporting content, and marketing plan, as well as contribute to the long-term technology roadmap.  Through these efforts you will expand the impact MathWorks has in education and champion the impact of trends in education on MathWorks product development plans.

Responsibilities

1. Provide guidance to sales and services personnel focused on the Education Market

  • Through customer visits, understand the customers’ needs and develop messaging for how MathWorks’ products address challenges in education
  • Work directly with sales teams in support of key sales opportunities and with key educational customers to drive product adoption
  • Strategize with account managers to increase adoption of MathWorks products and build best practices for effectively increasing sales worldwide

2. Drive awareness of MathWorks within the Education Market

  • Develop marketing programs and supporting materials, and use the web to effectively drive promotion in education
  • Produce articles, technical papers, and user stories in support of Education Market initiatives
  • Represent MathWorks at key conferences and academic events, deliver talks, speak on panels, and influence workshops

3. Support business strategy for Education Market

  • Contribute to and execute the Education Market strategy and business plan and review progress on it with an internal “board of advisors”
  • Work closely with engineering staff to capture key education customer needs and in development of new features and products to support these needs
  • Analyze education business performance, identify new market opportunities, and develop plans to increase penetration and growth
  • Identify and work with hardware partners to provide a complete solution for customer needs 

Qualifications Required / Preferred

Qualifications Required / Preferred

  • Ph.D. in Engineering or Science or M.S. and 5+ years of experience
  • Experience with MathWorks products (MATLAB, Simulink) 
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with worldwide higher education systems and use of technology in higher education
  • Familiarity with academic processes, including those for curriculum development, technology acquisition, textbook and related materials development, and funding of research and teaching
  • Experience and motivation supporting sales and engaging with customers in a multi-national environment

Additional experiences important to the position:

  • MBA degree
  • Product marketing experience
  • Experience with a global software company
  • Experience in forecasting and economic analysis

This position will be based in Natick, Massachusetts.  The candidate should expect to travel about 40% of the time in support of customer facing engagements.  Travel will be both within North America and worldwide, with at least two international trips per year.
