Job Summary

Would you like to join a fast-paced, world-class Technical Writing team that is constantly solving new and challenging problems? Are you an Information Architect or Content Strategist who is dedicated to fostering an excellent user experience and to creating clear and effective designs for presenting information? Do you want to work with commercial software products that make the world a better place? If you answered yes to these questions, we want to speak with you.

MathWorks is the leading developer of mathematical computing software. Engineers and scientists worldwide rely on its products to accelerate the pace of discovery, innovation, and development. MathWorks software products allow Engineers to manage the research, design and testing of systems at a high level, allowing the rapid development of innovative products.

This opening focuses on delivery-side architecture, specifically the ways that customers interact with MathWorks information delivered on each of our platforms – Doc Center (XHTML), PDF, context-sensitive Help, mobile, and collaboration portals. Working closely with UX staff, Documentation Content Architects, and XML technologists, you will help conceive, design, and implement innovative and interactive designs for our delivery platforms. Figuring out how to leverage the existing MathWorks XML-based authoring/processing system to deliver usable, relevant, state-of-the-web information deliverables for our customers is the key. If you know how to leverage content authored across organizations and how to deliver that content efficiently via multiple delivery channels (web, mobile, PDF, Help), please apply.

Responsibilities

1. Work collaboratively.

2. Develop design cases to describe user interactions with content and the information system. Design, prototype, and refine intuitive and engaging models for customer documentation based on requirements. Make effective use of XML-based and stand-alone prototyping tools to assess the effectiveness of your working designs. Map features of the delivery design back into our XML-based authoring and processing infrastructure.

3. Design information models that support multichannel deployment – web, mobile, PDF, context-help, and social media. Ensure that documentation delivered to customers across multiple channels exploits investments made in corporate and product-specific metadata taxonomies.

4. Develop and deliver appropriate training for writers and content architects. Mentor content architects and peer information architects on best practices for supporting the delivery model.

5. Participate in content development reviews, collaborate on design challenges, and negotiate issues that affect strategy and design. Design for and participate in usability testing or heuristic evaluations of content deliverables for the content model.

6. Monitor site metrics and make recommendations to enhance SEO.

7. Research new ideas and industry practices in the areas of information delivery, rich media, retrieval, and human factors. Evangelize opportunities for the XML-based authoring/processing infrastructure to support such innovative delivery.

8. Co-design and socialize collaborative models of authoring content that could be reviewed by Development, Marketing, Support, and Training organizations.
