Job Summary

We are seeking a software engineer who is passionate about user interface design to join the MATLAB Desktop development team.  Our team is one of the fastest growing teams at MathWorks and our products are used by hundreds of thousands of engineers worldwide. You will be working with a talented development team to design and implement new features. You will have the opportunity to build Java desktop components as well as JavaScript-based components.

This job requires strong GUI development skills in Java/Swing and related technologies. You must have strong requirements gathering, design, coding and debugging skill, with a passion for developing high-quality and well-architected software. Although previous web development experience is not required, you must be interested in expanding your skills to include web user interface development.

Responsibilities

  • Play a major role advancing the user experience of our products by creating new graphical interfaces as well as the supporting infrastructure.
  • Work with internal and external customers in defining requirements, workflows, priorities, and features.
  • Collaborate with other development teams and creatively invent new solutions.
  • Design and implement high-quality software systems.

Qualifications Required / Preferred

  • BS with 3+ years of experience, or MS/Ph.D. with 1+ years of experience in computer science, engineering, math, or related field
  • Excellent software engineering fundamentals, software design, and user interface design skills
  • Experience with Java/Swing, and related technologies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Plusses

  • Experience with MATLAB
  • Experience writing automated tests
  • Web development experience (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, etc.)
  • Experience with Agile/Lean development practices
