Job Summary

The Senior Data Warehouse Developer/Analyst works closely with the business areas and with the rest of the data warehouse team, to gather business reporting requirements and translate them into data mart designs and into working Business Objects Universes. Day to day responsibilities include: systems analysis, requirements definition, data modeling, Universe design and documentation, ETL development, and end user support/mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Gather reporting requirements as part of a project team. Help translate those requirements into working data model designs.
  • Become expert in multiple business/data areas, with respect to analysis and reporting, including our Tech Support, Customer Service, and Web Community areas.  Learn the data models of source systems and target reporting databases, as well as the underlying data, and leverage that knowledge in support of users and reporting projects.
  • ETL programming: Understand the source data available and map sources to the target design using a variety of tools, but primarily using the ETL tool of choice (BusinessObjects Data Services, formerly Data Integrator).
  • Works closely with other members of the data warehouse team to translate functional/technical specifications and logical data models into working databases, including relational and dimensional (star-schema) designs. Design-related tasks will focus on logical and physical data models for the history-tracking data warehouse and related data marts.
  • Conducts ETL performance tuning, troubleshooting, support, and capacity estimation.
  • Conducts thorough testing of ETL code changes to ensure quality of data produced.
  • Develops, adheres to, and is a proponent for Data Warehouse development standards, including ETL standards and best practices.
  • Design and maintain the Business Objects Universes.
  • Provide day-to-day support and mentoring to end users. Our business "power users" do the report-writing and BI application-building; this role will be a reporting-tools expert that is an available resource who those internal customers consult with.
  • Coordinate the Data Warehouse QA process (author test plans, assist with conducting tests).
  • Project Management for assigned projects.

Qualifications Required / Preferred

Broadly, this role requires someone with both business and IT capabilities: Someone who can work with and quickly understand a certain business unit's needs, and translate them into technical results. Being a data-centric person who can glean understanding from a data model is a strong plus. More specifically, we're looking for:

  •  B.S. degree in MIS/IT or business-related field.
  • 7+ years of total IT & Business experience.
  • 3+ Years of experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Crystal, Business Objects, Microsoft SSRS, or Oracle OBIEE.
  • 3+ years of direct experience with BI or DW projects over the full development lifecycle.
  • Expert communication and negotiation skills.
  • Expert systems analysis skills.
  • Expert SQL coding/querying skills.
  • Experience with relational database design/modeling; prior experience with modeling tools such as ERstudio or ERwin is desirable.
  • Experience leading projects.
  • Experience with software industry or exposure to customer service and tech support data a plus.
