Job Summary

The Systems Engineer will work as part of a dynamic team responsible for the infrastructure of a highly automated facility that supports building, testing, and releasing of all MathWorks products.  The Systems Engineer will work on the provisioning and lifecycle management of computing resources to support our Development organization.

Responsibilities

Manage computing resources used by the build and test automation system to optimize resource management. This includes publishing usage metrics, analyzing usage patterns, balancing computing resources to meet usage demands and recommending procurement of additional resources as needed. The candidate is expected to evolve the resource management model to a fully automated system that optimally manages the computing resources.  Work with cross-functional teams to evaluate and provide new computing resources and help debug system issues.

Qualifications Required / Preferred

  • Bachelors and/or Masters’ degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • 3-10 years relevant work experience
  • Strong experience in scripting languages such as Perl or Python
  • Experience with multiple operating systems such as Linux/UNIX, MacOS, and Windows
  • Experience with computer clusters or cloud computing on a large scale
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Independent learner and self-directed; takes initiative while working within a team context
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

 Pluses:

  • Experience with RRDtool, Graphite or similar graphing systems
  • Experience with virtualization
  • Network protocol knowledge
