Job Summary

As a Web Application Engineer you will utilize your web development skills to improve a broad range of MathWorks eSupport web applications and web services. You will be responsible for feature enhancements and bug fixes in Ruby on Rails and Java / Struts applications. You will also be assisting business areas in defining their needs and effectively translating business and technical requirements into functional specifications and application designs.

Responsibilities

  • Make enhancements to improve our MathWorks eSupport applications
  • Work with Business areas to define and document requirements for new application features
  • Create technical specifications and work with Architecture to review those specifications
  • Collaborate with Usability and designers to develop workflows and page designs
  • Work with quality analysts to ensure test cases and plans are appropriately developed and adhered to
  • Focus on improving performance and availability across the application

Qualifications Required / Preferred

  • B.S. + 3 years of experience, or M.S. degree in Computer  Science or Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience developing MVC web applications in Ruby on Rails or Java / Struts
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, XML/XSL/XSLT
  • Experience with SQL and database concepts
  • Knowledge of Software Development Methodologies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Pluses:

  • Experience with Linux and Apache
  • Experience with jQuery, JSON, SOAP
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Experience with search technologies
  • Experience with MATLAB
