Web Application Senior Team Lead

Job Summary

The Senior Team Lead will be responsible for managing and leading a rapidly growing team responsible for the development of web applications that provide our customers with customer support, technical support and search on mathworks.com

This position offers the opportunity to lead a collaborative team, own a number of high visibility deliverables, leverage web technologies as part of your work, and participate in all stages of software design, coding, testing, and documentation. You will also work with the business areas to understand their requirements and help them prioritize projects.

Specifically you will lead a team that is working on designing and delivering eSupport web applications, which includes customer bug reporting systems, integration with case tracking systems, the customer facing support area of mathworks.com and the site wide search experience. In addition to leading the team you will also be implementing new features.

Additional responsibilities include integrating the support experience within our products, ensuring the site meets service level agreements for availability and performance, and mentoring and guiding development staff. 

Responsibilities

• Help drive the key participating and defining the Web Site strategy and vision for eSupport
• Create and maintain area-wide project portfolios and plans
• Drive projects to completion while ensuring the application meets our high quality standard
• Manage a team of individuals that design, implement and test web applications
• Present new ideas to a diverse audience including Management, Marketing and Engineers
• Establish and maintain a professional, trained, and motivated staff through effective measurement of performance standards
• Provide regular and direct feedback via annual reviews, one-on-one meetings, and informal coaching opportunities to team members regarding career development, performance issues, teaming skills, process issues, and decision-making skills
• Programming and debugging in Ruby on Rails

Qualifications Required / Preferred

• MS in Computer Science, Engineering or other technical field plus experience
• 3-5 years experience as team lead or project leader
• Web application development in a multi-tiered environment using either Ruby on Rails or Java
• Able to coach development team through requirement gathering, and creation of functional and architectural specifications
• Effective negotiation skills and excellent communication skills
• Strong project management and planning skills
• Knowledge of Software Development Methodologies
• Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML/XSL/XSLT, AJAX
• Experience with SQL and database concepts
