Summary

We are looking for entry-level engineers to join our Engineering Development Group (EDG). EDG will help you identify and develop your technical, professional, and personal skills for a successful technical career at The MathWorks. You will receive a combination of practical experience and formal training in a work environment that fosters and rewards cooperation, teamwork, learning, and fun.

As an Application Support Engineer you will provide Technical Support to our customers, work on technical projects, and assist our Product Training Group. This will allow you to gain:
  • Product knowledge
  • Skills in troubleshooting, software testing and debugging
  • Exposure to real-world applications
  • Opportunities to develop your communication, presentation and leadership skills
You can choose to focus your projects in 3 general areas:
  • Purely technical: You will be programming, designing, and enhancing your technical skills.
  • Technical Sales and Marketing: You will give technical presentations, attend trade shows, and interact with our customers.
  • Customer facing: You will provide pre and post sales Applications Engineering, Consulting, and Product Training.

Managers throughout the company fill their job openings directly from EDG in the following areas:

Application Engineering
Work closely with our Sales Department to provide pre-sales technical assistance by creating and delivering demonstrations and presentations that show customers how MathWorks tools can solve their engineering problems

Product Training
Design, develop and deliver Product Training courses to external customers throughout North America

Development

Develop software tools for the world's leading scientific, engineering, and financial technical specialists

Quality Engineering
Test our products by building test suites using our exclusive automated testing environment

Documentation
Design and develop user manuals, installation guides, and other product documentation

Marketing
Use your engineering background to create and maintain product awareness

Sales
Use your technical skills to promote and sell our products

Web Development

Develop Perl, Java script, and HTML applications

Sample EDG Projects
Engineers in EDG are currently involved in:
  • Writing code samples
  • Giving technical sales presentations
  • Helping design, develop, and implement new product features
  • Creating product demos for the Web site
  • Demonstrating MathWorks products at trade shows
  • Writing code to test new products
  • Testing interfaces to hardware for data acquisition products
  • Writing technical examples for user documentation
  • Building GUIs for existing product demos
  • Assist in developing Product Training Courses

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for our MATLAB and Simulink product lines
  • Work as a Teaching Assistant for our Product Training Group where you will have the opportunity to travel, interact with customers in a classroom setting and teach sections of the courses
  • Complete projects in various departments in the organization to help build and strengthen your technical and professional skills

Qualifications

Because this position is extremely challenging and involves continuous learning and development, you must be extremely motivated and love to learn.

We also require:
  • M.S. or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or other engineering background
  • Familiarity with mathematics and at least one of the following: control systems or signal processing
  • Knowledge of at least one operating system and at least one programming language
  • Strong commitment to learning and personal development
  • Knowledge of MATLAB a plus
