Filter Design Using SPTool's Pole/Zero Editor

by Paul Pacheco and Anne Mascarin

This article explores using the Signal Processing Toolbox's Pole/Zero Editor to design and compare FIR (Finite Impulse Response) and IIR (Infinite Impulse Response) comb filters. We will show that adding poles to an FIR comb filter improves the frequency response by reducing the bandwidth of the notch. Further improvements can be achieved by moving the poles closer to the unit circle. read more

"In Praise of Tweaking"
Next we take a quantitative look at how these innovations developed over the course of the contest. In this analysis, we look at the interplay between radical innovations and tweaking battles in the development of the winning entry.
