Filter Design Using SPTool's Pole/Zero Editor
by Paul Pacheco and Anne Mascarin
This article explores using the Signal Processing Toolbox's Pole/Zero
Editor to design and compare FIR (Finite Impulse Response) and IIR
(Infinite Impulse Response) comb filters. We will show that adding
poles to an FIR comb filter improves the frequency response by reducing
the bandwidth of the notch. Further improvements can be achieved by
moving the poles closer to the unit circle.

Tips for Making a Stand-Alone Application from Your MATLAB Graphical Application
by Peter Fry
With the recent release of the MATLAB C/C++ Graphics Library, porting
your MATLAB code to a completely stand-alone application becomes much

will create a fully functioning application. There are limitations
that may be encountered however, and this article contains tips to
help overcome them.

MATLAB Programming Contest Analysis
Our analysis of the Surveyor contest is in two parts:
"Strategies, Randomizations, and Optimizations"
First, we take you line by line through the winning entry, with an
analysis of the algorithms, strategies, and optimizations in the
final winner, NoSoup4U!1.
"In Praise of Tweaking"
Next we take a quantitative look at how these innovations developed
over the course of the contest. In this analysis, we look at the
interplay between radical innovations and tweaking battles in the
development of the winning entry.
