Petroleum Solutions from GeoMechanics International, Inc.
GeoMechanics International (GMI) uses MathWorks products to develop and deploy focused, GUI-driven software applications for geomechanical, petrophysical, and wellbore imaging analysis in the oil and gas, environmental, and geotechnical industries. These products were created using MATLAB and the Partial Differential Equation and Statistics Toolboxes and are deployed using the MATLAB Runtime Server.
GMI Caliper performs rapid, customizable breakout analysis of four- and six-arm caliper data. The results of Caliper's interactive breakout identification provide critical constraints on in situ stress and rock strength for the analysis of wellbore stability, fracture permeability, reservoir performance, and fault seal integrity.
GMI MohrFracs enables assessment of fracture permeability, fault seal integrity, and production performance. This software determines the proximity of individual fractures and fault planes to frictional failure using stress magnitude and orientation, and fracture measurements. It distinguishes critically stressed fracture planes from stable planes and can determine the drilling trajectories that optimize reservoir drainage.

GMI WellCheck & SFIB (Stress and Failure of Inclined Boreholes)are interactive programs that consider wellbore stability for both well planning and operational phases. WellCheck enables drilling professionals to optimize mud weight and well direction and select the best casing points to prevent catastrophic wellbore failures and lost circulation. The SFIB system consists of modules for constraining in situ stress and predicting wellbore stability that allows engineers and geologists to design optimally stable drilling trajectories and determine mud weights to prevent wellbore failures, sidetracks, and intermediate casing programs. Solutions for the Process Industries Using MATLAB and Simulink
ABB Symphony - Simulink Real-Time Simulation offers simulation systems that combine Symphony or Infi 90 open distributed control systems with Simulink. These systems can employ sophisticated dynamic simulations in control strategy design, DCS testing, and operator training activities. In a stimulated system, the Simulink model is linked to the DCS at the I/O level via simulation modules that communicate with Infi 90 Multi-Function Processor (MFP) modules, Harmony Bridge Controllers, or Harmony Area Controllers.

The HYSYS Integrated Engineering Environment from Hyprotech includes modules for conceptual, process, and plant design, operations training systems, and real-time optimization that enable engineers to develop a single process model that can be used from conceptual design through on-line applications. Additionally, HYSYS can send and receive information from other applications, enabling users to create custom applications that access the power of HYSYS, or build custom front-ends that allow access only to certain parts of the simulation from a custom-designed interface. HYSYS offers an optional OLE/DDE interface to MATLAB so that MATLAB can be used to simulate advanced process control schemes.
MASSBAL Process Simulator is a software tool that provides an engineering environment for industrial process model building and simulation and can be used to solve a wide variety of engineering problems in many process industries. All applications use the same basic process model and employ a powerful and robust simulation engine. An interface to Simulink allows MASSBAL process models to be easily integrated into any Simulink simulation.

PLS_Toolbox Version 3.0 is a collection of advanced chemometric routines, tools designed specifically for modeling data from chemical systems. Originally named for the partial least squares (PLS) routines that have become a mainstay for calibration model development, PLS_Toolbox now contains over 100 functions that can be used in a variety of technical areas, including the chemical laboratory and process environments. It includes point-and-click interfaces for principal components analysis and partial least squares regression, enhanced routines for the analysis of multiway data, and new tools for working with complete data sets in the MATLAB environment.
