MathWorks Offers Training Courses

MathWorks applications engineer
Craig Santos looks on as Paul
Masters of Inmarsat works through an exercise in the MATLAB Fundamentals and Programming Techniques course.
Consider being in the following situation: You are a senior engineer with two months to finish a complex simulation. Although you know MATLAB, no one on your design team is familiar with Simulink. This is when you decide to contact The MathWorks to inquire about on-site training.

Response: The MathWorks immediately sends you demonstration software and works with you to identify your objectives. The training group sends an applications engineer who is also an experienced instructor to your site.
The instructor works intensively with your team for four days. By the end of the fourth day, your designers have experienced all aspects of modeling with Simulink and are ready to implement their concepts.

The MathWorks offers training courses to serve a variety of student needs. If, like the engineer in our example, you need to learn about a new product fast, we offer hands-on practice and in-depth exposure to features and functions in eight different products and product applications. If you have been using an older version of a MathWorks product, we can get you up to speed on the latest software in just two days or less. The training group will work with you to identify your key tasks and will tailor courses accordingly. Each course uses the latest software and is taught by a MathWorks engineer with extensive teaching experience.

If you are interested in one of the courses offered year-round at The MathWorks in Natick, MA, the training area to view a complete course catalogue plus pricing, and scheduling information. To arrange training at your work site, first decide when you would like training and on which products, then find out how many people will attend. (If there are fewer than 10, training may have to be conducted in Natick.) Finally, complete the registration form. The training group will contact you as soon as possible to begin class preparations.

Become a Usability Tester
Would you like to help us ensure that the tools you use are easy to work with and provide the features you need? This is what happens when you take part in a usability test. We use the information you provide to existing products and to create new ones.

Customers help developers at The MathWorks turn the paper prototype on the far left into a complete GUI for the Control System Toolbox.

Usability testing is the linchpin of software design at The MathWorks. We use a variety of techniques to help us understand how you work and what you need from our products, including paper prototyping and a more conventional two-hour usability test. When we begin planning products, we invite customers to The MathWorks to test the design. Our usability specialists and developers listen and observe as you "think aloud" while you work through a series of tasks using a paper prototype of the software. Afterwards, you and the team discuss how you would like the product to change and what new products or features you'd like to see added.

If you have already taken part in a usability test - thank you. If you are interested in participating and live in New England, please send e-mail to usability@mathworks.com to inquire about ongoing usability sessions. If you live outside New England or cannot travel to Natick, there are other ways to participate:

  • E-mail us at usability@mathworks.com if you plan to attend a trade show where The MathWorks is exhibiting. The usability team can arrange an informal interview with you about your use of The MathWorks products.
  • Complete a survey on our Web site on a variety of topics, from what you need in a GUI design tool to feature enhancements in Simulink.
  • Host a site visit at your own work place. This can be the traditional two-hour test or an unstructured "shadow" session in which a usability team member interviews you as you perform your usual tasks.

We look forward to working with you!
