Aerospace Industries Association CEO to Deliver Keynote at MathWorks Aerospace and Defense Conference


The MathWorks Aerospace and Defense Conference ’07 will feature John Douglass and leading experts from the aerospace and defense industry

The MathWorks will host the world’s top aerospace and defense engineering talent at the annual MathWorks Aerospace and Defense Conference in Manhattan Beach, CA. The conference will focus on the latest technologies for Model-Based Design and its implementation in the aerospace and defense industry.

This year’s conference will feature a keynote address by John Douglass, President and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), which represents the nation’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of civil, military, and business aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, space systems, aircraft engines, missiles, material, and all related equipment, components, and services.

In the technical sessions, engineers from the world’s leading aerospace and defense companies, including Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman Corporation, and NASA, will join experts from The MathWorks to discuss implementation of Model-Based Design in the aerospace and defense industry. The MathWorks will also hold master classes focusing on advanced programming, code generation, and image processing using MathWorks tools.

Keynote Speaker: John W. Douglass
In his address, John Douglass, President and CEO of AIA, will discuss a number of issues such as the challenges facing the aerospace industry, promoting interest in aerospace to the next generation on innovators, and the role of technology in advancing a state-of-the-art aerospace industry.

Mr. Douglas is a nationally recognized expert in systems acquisition, with experience in Congress, the Department of Defense, and the nation’s executive branch. Through his leadership of AIA, which represents nearly 300 member companies and over a half-million employees, Mr. Douglass has been at the forefront in recognizing key issues affecting the industry and in proposing legislative and corporate actions to strengthen the industry’s future. Additionally, he served on the Commission on the Future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry, which was established by the President and U.S. Congress to lay out a vision for the future of the American aerospace industry.

Technical Presentations
Technical presentations will be given by industry leaders such as BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, NASA, and Northrop Grumman, and, alongside experts from The MathWorks. Topics include:

  • Verification and validation
  • Best practices for designs involving large work groups
  • Physical modeling
  • Code generation
  • Video and image processing embedded system design

Special Panel
The MathWorks will moderate a special panel discussion entitled “Best Practices for Establishing a Model-Based Design Culture in Aerospace and Defense.”  Panel members represent the leading aerospace companies including Northrop Grumman Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, BAE Systems and Rockwell Collins.

Master Classes
The MathWorks will offer master classes throughout the conference on topics such as:

  • Handling large data sets
  • Designing fixed-point DSPs
  • Programming techniques in MATLAB®
  • Automatically generating embedded code
