Pressure-Compensated Flow Control

This example shows two versions of a flow control.The first one is built of an orifice and a pressure compensator. The second version contains only a fixed-area orifice. The variable orifices installed downstream from flow controls vary pressure differential across them to estimate its influence on flow rate. Flow rates through the controls are measured with the flow rate sensors, and pressure sensors monitor pressure differentials.

The pressure compensator in the first flow control is set to maintain a 6 bar pressure differential across the orifice. As a result, the flow rate through the first flow control remains practically constant, as long as the pressure differential across the flow control is bigger than 6 bar. This is not the case for the second flow control, where the flow rate varies with pressure.
