Series Hybrid Transmission

This example shows the basic architecture of a series hybrid transmission. All mechanical power from the engine is converted to electrical power via the generator. In this test, the vehicle accelerates from 15 m/s to 20 m/s, and then decelerates back to 15 m/s. The power management strategy uses just stored electrical power to effect the maneuver, the combustion engine only delivering the power required to maintain a steady 15 m/s.

Losses for the motor, generator, and battery are modeled. You can use this system-level model to gain understanding of system performance, and to support design of the power management strategy. The example can be directly compared with the parallel hybrid example sdl_parallel_hybrid and the power-split hybrid example sdl_power_split_hybrid.
