Automotive
The automobile is the most complex consumer product in the world. Today's high-end vehicles contain more than 70 microprocessors controlling engine, chassis, safety, and driver systems, and the software content in vehicles is projected to grow at a double-digit pace over the next five years.
Engineers at every major automotive manufacturer and supplier in the world use MATLAB® and Simulink® to develop these systems by exploring and analyzing ideas, modeling and simulating systems, rapidly prototyping concepts in the vehicle, and then deploying to production hardware. For many automotive companies, the tools are reducing design time by as much as 50%.
Leading automotive companies such as Toyota, Denso, Motorola, and Delphi use MathWorks products to improve the design and understanding of these complex, integrated systems by providing a common platform for sharing system specifications and development ideas.

The MathWorks Participation in |
Driven by the increasing complexity of vehicle electronics, automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and tool vendors are working together to develop open standards that will support future vehicle and customer requirements for software scalability, maintainability and flexibility. The MathWorks joined AUTOSAR to support the company mission: to accelerate the pace of discovery and innovation in engineering and science. The MathWorks core products, MATLAB software and Simulink software, serve as the platforms for development, componentization, and reuse of algorithms throughout the automotive industry, both within and outside the AUTOSAR consortium.
As an AUTOSAR Premium Member, The MathWorks participates in several AUTOSAR work-packages. One goal is to define, document, and demonstrate how engineers can use the current versions of MathWorks™ products (including Simulink, Stateflow® software, and the Real-Time Workshop® Embedded Coder™ product) in a development process to generate software components that interact with the AUTOSAR Run Time Environment (see Applying Simulink to AUTOSAR). In addition, The MathWorks continues to enhance its products to better support the general needs of large scale software architecture, run-time environment integration, and Model-Based Design workflows that AUTOSAR and other industry, application, or company standards can leverage.
The MathWorks Automotive Advisory Board
The MathWorks is committed to delivering software products that accelerate product design and development in the automotive industry. The MathWorks Automotive Advisory Board (MAAB) meets annually to share common experiences and insight into leveraging MathWorks technology. It also gives automotive customers an opportunity to shape The MathWorks vision and future product development.
