Engineering Tasks

System Architecture

As systems become more complex, it is critical to verify concepts before expensive hardware is created. System architecture design occurs early on in the design process and is useful for determining high-level specifics and system behavior. It enables engineers to see the big picture early on in the design and development process. Gaining an accurate understanding of the key functions of your communication system (such as modulation, noise, bandwidth occupied and interference) and designing and testing the architecture and behavior early in the design process reduce overall development time, cost, and risk.

Modeling and Simulation

Design teams use behavioral models to determine what areas in a design require simplification, and which simplifications are reasonable and appropriate. Once the model is validated, partitioning and implementation of the design can proceed smoothly. The teams can verify the implementation against the model using it as a test harness.

The Simulink® family of products can model systems that contain analog and digital signal flow and control flow behavior. Simulink software provides a design environment in which to debug, profile, and optimize behavioral models. Its hierarchical nature enables engineers to understand the system-level behavior, specific algorithms, and how they interact.

Signal Processing Blockset™ software makes it possible for engineers to model frame-based, multirate, and sampled data processing systems in a natural and intuitive way. The Communications Blockset™ product adds specific libraries to accelerate designs. Simple control logic can be modeled with Simulink. With the addition of Stateflow® software, advanced control logic can be captured in state-transition diagrams. Once you represent your system using a block diagram, you can run your simulation and test how different parameters affect the system's behavior. The end-result is a more accurate design in less time.
