Data Acquisition and Access

The MATLAB® technical computing platform provides multiple ways to acquire and exchange data from Microsoft Excel files, databases, ASCII text files, and other sources. MATLAB add-on products, such as the Image Acquisition Toolbox™ and the OPC Toolbox™ products, let you create custom applications for direct communication between MATLAB and hardware systems.

OPC Toolbox The OPC Toolbox includes the Simulink® Blockset library, which lets you communicate data directly between Simulink software and your process system.

Data Analysis and Visualization

MATLAB and add-on products provide tens of thousands of functions for analyzing complex data obtained from hardware tests. These include functions for advanced statistics and curve fitting, signal processing, optimization, FEA integration, dynamic modeling, principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares (PLS), and image processing. MATLAB 2-D and 3-D plotting tools let you interactively create customized plots. You can export results to all popular graphics formats.

Automating Engineering Tasks

MATLAB provides a math-based programming language that lets you develop algorithms in less time than it takes to program in C, Fortran, or other programming languages. You can also incorporate legacy C and Fortran code.

The MATLAB® Compiler™ product lets you convert your MATLAB programs into self-contained applications and .NET and COM-based components that can be deployed to end-users outside the MATLAB environment. Your standalone application can include legacy C and C++ code.

Reporting and Sharing Results

MATLAB® Report Generator™ software automatically documents tasks performed in MATLAB, such as analyzing and visualizing data and developing algorithms. You can run MATLAB code and capture the graphics and data as they are produced and then publish your reports in multiple documentation formats, including HTML, PDF, and Microsoft Word.
