Why do I get the error message "installer.exe is not a valid win32 application" when trying to start an installer which was downloaded from MathWorks?

This error message indicates that the installer executable is corrupt or did not download fully. In some cases, virus scanners can change the content of files (e.g. EXE-Files) during the download. When this happens it is possible that the downloaded Installer will produce the error message above.
To work around this conflict, try downloading the installer again. If you have a virus scanner (such as Kaspersky or McAfee), you can also temporarily disable the virus scanner while downloading and when running the MATLAB installer. After you have successfully downloaded and installed MATLAB, you can re-enable your anti-virus software.
