Why are objects not placed in the correct positions when using Plot Tools on a docked figure in MATLAB 7.0 (R14)?

If I click "Show Plot Tools" on a docked figure and attempt to add objects with my mouse, the objects are not placed where I click.

This bug has been fixed in Release 14 Service Pack 2 (R14SP2). For previous releases, please read below for any possible workarounds:

We have verified that there is a bug in MATLAB 7.0 (R14) in the way that it handles Plot Tools for docked figures.

To work around this issue, undock the figure before clicking "Show Plot Tools."
