Where can I find my license file and File Installation Key?

I need my license file and a File Installation Key to complete my installation. Where can I find these?

Your license file contains information about the products and releases you are currently entitled to use. A File Installation Key is a numeric code that the MathWorks Product Installer uses to determine which products to install, based on information included in the license file. 

Obtain the license file and File Installation Key from the License Center by activating the software you are installing to your computer. 

Check for Activation Permissions

For some licenses, you must be an administrator to activate software. To check if you have the proper permissions:

1. Sign in to the License Center and select your license.
2. Look for the Install and Activate tab. If you do not see this tab, then you do not have permission. Contact your license administrator using the information in the Contact Administrator(s) tab.

Activate to Retrieve License File and File Installation Key

Choose one of these activation options:

• Activate the software on a computer with no previous activations. See New Activations. 
• Select an existing computer activation. See Existing Activations. 

New Activations 

1. Sign in to the License Center and select your license.
2. On the  Install and Activate  tab, select the activation option you see:
   • If you see a list of previously activated computers, click Activate a Computer.
   • If you see an Install and Activate Software on a Computer box with a button to download the installer, to the right of the box, click Activate to Retrieve License File.
   • If you see an Install and Activate box with a button to get started, to the right of the box, click Resolve a connection issue, and then Activate to Retrieve License File. This option is available only for older releases of MATLAB licenses for individuals.
3. Fill out the requested details and then click Continue:
   • Software Release - Select the release you are installing.
   • Operating System - Select your computer’s operating system.
   • Host ID - Enter the Host ID of your computer. For help, see How do I find my host ID?
   • Computer Login Name - Enter the username you use to log in to your computer. For help, see How do I find my username?
4. When asked if the software is installed, select No, and then click Continue.
5. Click Download License File to download the license file to your computer.
6. Copy the File Installation Key that appears on this page. 

Existing Activations 

1. Sign in to the License Center and select your license.
2. Click the Install and Activate tab.
3. From the Activated Computers list, in the Get License File column, click the blue download arrow for your existing activation.
4. From the activation page, select a software release and click Continue.
5. Click Download License File to download the license file to your computer.
6. Copy the File Installation Key that appears on this page.
