matlab 2013b installed and freezes

i upgraded to os x 10.9 and matlab 2012a is working fine.
i downloaded matlab 2013b this afternoon and it was perfectly installed. so i now have noth matlab 2012a and matlab 2013b installed on my mac pro.
but the problem is whenever i turn on matlab 2013b it just freezes. i have to force quit matlab 2013b (matlab 2012a is working perfectly though)
is there any way to solve this problem?
