3D view Fish-eye distortion

Hello,
I am looking to simulate a fish-eye lens distortion while viewing 3D patch objects within MATLAB figures. Ideally, I'd like this view to update in 'real time', rather than manipulating the object, grabbing a screenshot and distorting that 2D screen grab.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought: It's possible one of the projections in the Mapping Toolbox might work for this:
