Hi...I need help about an assignment to "Recognition of Flowers' Types".....will u???

I m going to do an assignment in which i have to detect/recognize a flower and its type.....how should this be done .......Is their RGB Values calculation will solve my problem?Kindly help me as soon as possible?

See my color detection tutorials in my File Exchange http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/?term=authorid%3A31862 Of course color detection alone won't do it since there are lots of white flowers, lots of yellow flowers, lots of blue flowers, lots of red flowers, etc. You will also need to take shape into account, unless your database you test on has only single species for each color. You may also need to detect the color of the center of the flower as well as the color of the petals. Post 3 sample photos if you want more advice.

If you have a known number of flower types to pick from then you can go based on color and texture. If you have to identify every possible flower in the world, occurring in any number in the photo, and with any number of other types of flowers or other objects in the photo, and with different levels of overlap and orientation, then I suggest you limit it down to something more achievable.

Sir Basically i have to work on 15 known types of flowers and single flower in an image at a time.....sir kindly tell me how to do it based on color and texture because i am beginner in MATLAB so kindly explain it or attach some file you already have..

This seem like too challenging a problem for a beginner. First of all, finding flowers in a scene of other non-flower clutter is very difficult. Secondly there are tens of thousands of different flowers in the world, with different names around the world, and identifying them all is much too difficult for you. If I were you I'd start by calling imrect() or rbbox() and having the user locate the flower. Then I'd get the RGB color and call stdfilt() to get the texture, and maybe the circularity or solidity from regionprops if you can get the flower color segmented out from the background. Then I'd have a set of feature vectors that list what theose feature values are for each type of flower you want to assign the unknown flower to. See which feature vector is closest to the feature vector of the unknown flower. That's about all I would expect a beginning student to handle. Much more and it becomes way too difficult.

Make a list of things you think look different between them, like size, solidity, color of center, color of outside, texture, etc. Then measure those. Then see which measurements in your training set lie closest to your unknown flower.

can you give me some advice on detecting the number of flowers in this picture. I have written some code if you would like to see, but it is not accurate enough.
