The big black square is not too hard to find. See my Image Segmentation Tutorial http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/?term=authorid%3A31862. For the legs, you are going to need a lot higher resolution. Why do you want to measure them? Is there a possibility that one of them may be missing? If so, how will it look different than if it is there?

I don't understand the English of that statement/question/whatever. Yes you need to find the position - you already told us that in your original statement (actually an implied question I guess). And I gave you a link to a tutorial that will help you.
