SimPowerSystems: Phasor Mode for frequency measurement

4 views (last 30 days)
Hello,
i have been simulating electrical grids with SimPowerSystems both in continuous and discrete mode. For the simulation of a bigger grid, i would like to switch to phasor mode.
What i dont know (and can't find anywhere):
  • How does phasor mode behave in case of occuring transient events (eg a short circuit or a generator trip).
  • Can i use phasor mode to model these events and observe electro-mechanical phenomena like frequency deviation and rotor angle oscillation?
  • Is phasor mode equivalent (or comparable) to the rms simulation used by other power engineering tools like NEPLAN/PowerFactory/PSS-E?
Thanks in advance, Sebastian

phasor mode is not good for frequency deviation as it assumes there is not change in frequency in order to speed up simulaiton. This is a similar technique used in many other large scale grid simulation tools. you can still simulate faults though, but you will not see accurate variations in frequency, but the magnitude values can still be useful of voltages and currents durring the fault.
