How can I deconvolve two audio waves?

I've downloaded a folder of head-related impulse responses and am looking to deconvolve them from audio files. I used the deconv function but I got the error

Error using deconv (line 20) First coefficient of A must be non-zero.

I read that I should just start the array at the first non zero coefficient but worried I'll lose phase.

Any help would be much appreciated.
