Does anybody know of a quantitive measure for spherical aberration of an image?

Does there already exist code for analyzing an image with a 2D grid of points and to determine the amount of aberration there is in this image?
Thanks!

I believe you'd need an image of a point source right on the optic axis, and then you fit a quadratic to it. If you go off axis then the other aberrations like coma, astigmatism, distortion, field curvature, and chromatic aberrations come into play (if there are any of those). Even on axis you could have defocus so you need to make sure the image is in focus or you won't know if the blur is due to speherical aberration or defocus - those are two different things.
