When trying to install both MATLAB and MATLAB Production Server (MPS) on a machine which cannot connect to the internet, I see an error message which says that "the application encountered an unexpected error and needs to close." In my log file, I see that a java.lang.NullPointerException was thrown at the very beginning of the installation.

This error will occur if you download MATLAB 8.3 and MPS 1.2.1 into the same MATLAB installer instance and then attempt to install MATLAB using that installer.
As a workaround, redownload MATLAB separately from MPS, and use the independent MATLAB installer to install MATLAB. You can still use the old installer to install MPS, only MATLAB is affected by this issue when both are downloaded into the same installer.
