Long download time for Mac OS X 10.9 r2014a

I am connected to ethernet and have disabled my antivirus software. Even so, as I am using the download agent to download the MATLAB package, it has been taking ridiculously long, like 8 hours, to barely get 10% downloaded and often stops downloading completely for unknown reasons and needs to be restarted. Is there anything I can do about this?

Get a better internet connection? Not being facetious, what kind of connection do you have?
