Code for propagation of a gaussian beam through an optical coupler.

I want to write a code for propagation of a gaussian beam through an optical coupler (the coupler having step index waveguides with arbitrary parameters). I am familiar with the theory but am unable to implement it in a code. Could someone please help me start with the equations if not the entire code? Thank you.
