Linux concatenated netcdf file only displaying information for first source file of the destination file when accessed in Matlab.

When using ncdisp or ncread on the combined file, I am not able to view the data from any of the files following the first component file of the created destination file, I was hoping that they would become components of a single matrix(annual files for daily pressure level heights, so the desired outcome is that created file would have a added time dimension for the year or that they would merge in that all the times are measured in hours from date: 1-1-1 with 1460 readings per grid point per year)
