plants and subsystems... whats the difference?

Hello! I am trying to use the MPC toolbox in simulink to control a MIMO subsystem which contains 3 state space models. How do I need to 'pretreat' this subsystem before I can start designing (and regulating with) the MPC toolbox? When I read guides online everyone seems to refer to (what I have called) subsystems as plants. Is a plant a different object than the subsystem? Comments/tips would be appreciated!

can you clarify what you mean exactly when you say your MIMO subsystem contains 3 state-space models?
