how to read a video in matlab?

I have downloaded a cvid codec, still am not able to read the video. I am using matlab R2013a. I am getting this error.
Error using VideoReader/init (line 450) Unable to determine the codec required.
Error in VideoReader (line 147) obj.init(fileName);
