How do I install MATLAB 2013a for Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite?

I wanted to do a fresh install of my apps after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite. I am an engineering student who needs to use MATLAB for my studies. My findings are pretty ridiculous.
A bug report came out that supposedly fixed my problem. However, this only applies to people who have already installed MATLAB 2013a and have trouble opening it. I filed a complaint for the bug report, saying that I cannot install MATLAB; when I open InstallForMacOSX.app, it crashes a few seconds later with no error code. I received an email from Wendy Fullam of online support a few days later. She claimed that the bug report had been updated accordingly.
It hasn't been modified at all.
It was last modified on 10/21/14, which is four days BEFORE I filed my report. When I try to contact support directly, I have to categorize my complaint; but I am unable to even do this. I cannot retrieve my license number because I have not installed MATLAB. Furthermore, there isn't even a section under "Mac" for OS X 10.10 Yosemite. Many other people have this problem, so I do not understand how it hasn't even been acknowledged.
I ask my question once again. How do I install MATLAB 2013a for OS X 10.10 Yosemite?

I'm having exactly the same issue, I'm not able to install it on my system. the so called work arounds don't apply if you haven't got it already installed. I even thought of trying the new 2014 student version but it downloads the a version not the b version which has the fix.
I have coursework to complete and this doesn't make it any easier.

I have the 2014a version and I can't install. Almost at the end appears the message
$Worker.run(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:603) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:722)
(Nov 05, 2014 16:17:34) Error: The application encountered an unexpected error and needs to close. You may want to try re-installing your product(s).
